Workshop Description: Armin will demonstrate how to make piping using different materials and different borders. there are so many ways to make piping and so many applications for it! He will demonstrate this by showing how to apply inlay piping to flat handles. If time permits, Armin will also demonstrate how to do what he calls his “fake braiding”, which is another useful edge finish. Armin will use a leather sewing machine for this workshop so that you understand what is needed to get professional piping results.
Materials to bring: Cutting board, tooling stone, round knife, utility knife, steel ruler (longer than 30cm), safety beveler, sharp shears, cantle pliers or similar, modeling spoon (sharp), bone folder, Craftool Pro #78 and D2176 (if you have them) for fake border, water dish and sponge, and note taking materials.
Workshop Instructor: Armin Dobstetter started leatherwork during his 14 years at a local reenactment American Indian Club. With his first Harley-Davidson in 1980, he started to create useful things for his bike, then for the bikes of friends. In 1990, he started his business and today he is one of best leather artists in Europe for seats, saddlebags and various motorcycle gear, working not only on leather with his own designs, but also creating base plates and doing the upholstery.
