All skill levels welcome!

Workshop Description: Increase your bottom line with add-ons to your projects! This class will be hands-on, using sewing machines and the tools you bring. It will be very important that you bring the tools on this list provided. We will be going over pockets and how to install them in our chaps, and trimming pieces such as scalloping and fancy borders. We will do some inlay and overlay work, for example, initials, brands, and logos. We will also do some lacing and buckstitching. I will also go over double fringe and how to lay it out and the steps to take to put it in efficiently and correctly. If we have time, we can go over twisted fringe and anything you have a question about! All of these applications can be applied to anything; handbags, portfolios, and more. Please get ahold of me if you have any questions about this class!

Materials to bring: 12-ish feet (can be smaller scraps 2′) of chap leather to make into samples of what we are making (3, 4, or 5oz), cutting mat, cutting tools (rotary, scissors, head knife, utility knife, X-acto knife), straight edge (like quilter’s grid), 1/4″ double-sided tape, Tandy white pen, pencil, and a notebook.

Workshop Instructor: Julie has been doing leatherwork and building custom leather goods for 43 years. She started working with leather in her dad’s leather shop he set up in their tack room. She attended saddle making school at Spokane Falls Community College with Jesse Smith in the early 80’s. Her first job was in Laramie, Wyoming building saddles at The Boardwalk for Rob Vogel. She then ran Ellensburg Saddle Company in Ellensburg, Washington with her husband. After going their separate ways, Julie opened Julie Baugher Leather Design and continued her custom work. Now, Julie Baugher Leather Design is a full-time leather working school specializing in chap making, but also caters to any level of leather work from beginner to advanced. Julie also has a line of chap patterns that she has created and sells online. Her love of working with leather continues, but her heart really lies with teaching others this craft that has been so good to her. #useyourgifts
