Workshop Description: Learn how to create stunning compositions from an artist’s perspective. This drawing-intensive class is for advanced students as well as beginners. Gain a crash course in Art 101 and discover how impactful good design can be. Discover how to create your own unique style without having to rely on other people’s patterns. Sarah will walk you through her personal approach to the process and together you will practice putting the concepts to paper. No matter your skill level, a strongly framed design with thoughtful layout is far more impactful than perfect tooling with a weak composition. Take your hard work to the next level and learn how to intentionally compose beautiful designs in your own artistic voice. If you struggle with drawing scrolls, Sarah encourages you to sign up for the scroll-specific classes, “Finding your Flow” and “Building a Scroll”.
Materials to bring: Sketchbook, graph paper, pencil/eraser, pen, straight edge, and some circle tools.
Workshop Instructor: Sarah Garvey is a full-time leather artist specializing in intricately tooled purses and accessories. A single mom of two, she has been designing and creating under her brand, Western Skies Handmade, since 2008. With a background as a classically trained musician, Sarah’s distinct style elevates traditional craft with a fresh blend of classical and modern designs.
