Workshop Description: Attending this workshop will allow you to experience and learn how to carve a pair of fully flower carved chap/chink yokes. You will learn how to get a nice flow using Yves’ multi-primary circles method, composing a pattern that is pleasing and draws attention. Allow Yves to help you get started and guide you through the whole patterning process. Then, you’ll pick up your tools to carve the new pattern that you just drew. Yves is a master leather carver and can help you wherever you might run into trouble. The yoke template used in this workshop is one offered by Julie Baugher, who has graciously allowed it to be used for learning these skills with Yves.

Materials to bring: Note book, pencil, tooling stone, mallet, strop, swivel knife, floral carving tools and stamps, and headlamp/magnifier if you need one. (A set of Barry King tools can be loaned from Yves if needed.)

Workshop Instructor: Yves Lesire started as a self-taught leathercrafter during the first 25 years of his career, working with leather while in the French Navy, and later as a waiter on cruise ships. He began making western saddles after attending Fred Harsant’s school. He is now a full-time western saddle maker and teacher. Yves is a founding member and a former president of the European Cowboy Gear Maker and Artist Association. He regularly teaches leatherworking and carving classes at his workshop in Villeveyrac, France.

Workshop Sponsors: Hermann Oak Leather Co.
