Workshop Description: If you’re a dog person, or know someone who is, you need to learn how to make this brooch! Form cheeks that just beg to be squeezed, a head that looks like it needs petting, and eyes you can dive into. This workshop encompasses embossing, figure carving, and dyeing techniques that help the animals you carve appear more life-like. Join Honghao in making something he is well known for doing.

Materials to bring: Tooling stone, mallet, cutting mat, cutting knife, sharpening equipment, scalpel, No. 11 scalpel blades, small glass plate (flat), and modeling tools. (Honghao will bring modeling tools for loan/purchase.)

Workshop Instructor: Honghao Cai is leather craft artist living in Japan. After graduating from high school in the early nineties, he worked as a creative director at an advertising company for 20 years, and then began studying leather crafts in 2010. He started CAI Leather Art Studio in Beijing in 2015 and in Japan in 2017. Since 2016, he has been participating in leather craft contests around the world, while at the same time, holding leather craft seminars around the world, expanding his interactions with many people. His accolades include numerous first place ribbons in the World Leather Debut and awards from the Japanese Leather Craft Exhibitions. He currently working as a leather artist with world-class skills. In 2019, Honghao Cai was the recipient of the Al Stohlman Award for Achievement in Leathercraft.
