Workshop Description: Join Brandon for this up-close tooling class as he demonstrates how to achieve layers of dramatic dimension and realism in leather. Having taught tooling in online spaces like Elktracks Studio, Brandon has refined the process for explaining the more subtle techniques to achieving detailed tooling. This class is designed to explain all the concepts and fundamentals useful for beginners, while also arming the intermediate and advanced with new techniques and skills to allow you to tackle more complicated projects with confidence. Students of all skill levels will find value in this class. Bring your best learning attitude and be prepared to question everything about the tooling process.

Materials to bring: Recommended: Granite/marble slab, mallet or maul (wood, polymer, rawhide, or composite are all good; NO RUBBER), small, medium, and large common bevelers (figure bevelers will also work fine), small, medium, and large smooth pear shaders, small, medium, and large lifters, hair line tool (swivel blade, modeling spoon, or even a needle will work), ballpoint stylus set, swivel knife, modeling spoon, and smallest and largest textured or knurled backgrounder or pear shader (most shapes will work). (These tools are “recommended”, but for reasons you’ll learn in class, just bring what you can and we’ll make it work.)

Workshop Instructor: Brandon Corral, known as Swift on the internet, is an award-winning leather artist. Having dedicated the past third of his life to leathercraft, Brandon has found a focus on leather tooling and has made it a staple of his career. Having taught marketing for the past two years, his focus has now expanded to also include spreading the knowledge of the subtle art of detailed tooling.

Workshop Sponsors: Hermann Oak Leather Co. and Renia USA.
