Workshop Description: Let’s draft a pattern for a pair of shotgun chaps! This class will teach you how to take measurements, and then apply measurements to make a pattern for a particular person. We will go over fit, details in fitting including types of leather and how different things like pockets affect fit. You will get a pattern to take home with you and instructions on what the class went over. Generally, we also get to talk about construction order and techniques used to build chaps. Please feel free to bring chaps that you have built so we can go over them. My goal for each student is to give them a good base to go from so they can add to details and learn in an easy format and manner. Please don’t hesitate to get ahold of me if you have any questions ahead of time! jbldleatherschool@gmail.com

Materials to bring: Tape measure, cloth tape, 6 x 24″ Omni Quilters grid, pencils, eraser, notebook. (Please put your name on your grid.)

Workshop Instructor: Julie has been doing leatherwork and building custom leather goods for 43 years. She started working with leather in her dad’s leather shop he set up in their tack room. She attended saddle making school at Spokane Falls Community College with Jesse Smith in the early 80’s. Her first job was in Laramie, Wyoming building saddles at The Boardwalk for Rob Vogel. She then ran Ellensburg Saddle Company in Ellensburg, Washington with her husband. After going their separate ways, Julie opened Julie Baugher Leather Design and continued her custom work. Now, Julie Baugher Leather Design is a full-time leather working school specializing in chap making, but also caters to any level of leather work from beginner to advanced. Julie also has a line of chap patterns that she has created and sells online. Her love of working with leather continues, but her heart really lies with teaching others this craft that has been so good to her. #useyourgifts
