Students will learn all of the construction techniques required to build the strap, as well as tool a panel that will be attached to the strap to make it a fully custom piece of functional leather art.
Materials to bring: Note taking materials, cutting board/mat, scalpel with spare #11 blades, metal ruler/ straight edge, tooling stone, spray bottle, headlamp/ magnifiers, small to medium sized floral carving tools (camouflage tools, pear shaders, bevelers, veiners/ wigglers, stop, mules foot, and background tools) modeling spoon, swivel knife, mallet/ maul, wing dividers, stylus, skiving knife, stitching chisels/pricking irons, a stitching pony is also highly recommended.
Workshop Instructor: Erik began leatherworking in 2014 as a hobby, quickly developing a deep passion for the craft. What started as a personal passion grew into a desire to share my knowledge with others. Today, he teaches hands-on classes through McNeese State University. These classes are focused on traditional techniques and practical skills. He enjoys helping students of all skill levels discover the joy of working with leather and seeing them leave with the knowledge, pride, and satisfaction of something they made themselves.
Workshop Sponsors: Hermann Oak Leather Co., The Fiebing Company, Renia, and Weaver Leather
