Friday 05/15 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
All skill levels welcome!
Workshop Description: Award-winning leather artist, Kathy Flanagan, is known for her life-like animal carvings in leather. In 2025, she posted a photograph of a horse on leather which got a lot of attention online based on the definition and detail involved. Responding to the many requests to offer this as a class, Kathy hosted this as an online workshop, which sold out and had international attendance. Now it is available as an in-person class. If you are interested in horses and figure carving, this is a great class for you!
Materials to bring: Tooling surface, mallet, spray bottle or sponge & water dish, stylus, modeling spoon, smooth bevelers, smooth matting tools, smooth pear shaders, and a ball modeler.
Workshop Instructor: When she was very young, Kathy started her leathercraft career as a 4-H project, not knowing what it would lead to many years later. She has become the recipient of prestigious awards, such as the coveted Al Stohlman Award and Master Leather Artisan of the Year from the Academy of Western Artists. Figure carving has become her primary focus, and she is determined to share everything she has learned.
Workshop Sponsors: Hermann Oak Leather Co.
