Workshop Description: This workshop will focus on how to process a full hide of rawhide or leather into lace that is custom-sized for a project. Cutting for width, splitting for thickness, and beveling will be covered through demonstration and hands-on student participation. No previous experience needed. Topics covered: how to turn full hides of rawhide or leather into lace for any project; tools needed and how to use them; cutting and beveling with tools as well as free hand; how to size lace for specific project; and splitting for thickness.

Materials to bring: Students should bring items for note taking and enthusiasm for learning. All tools and materials provided.

Workshop Instructor: Scott’s braiding career began at age six. One day, his dad was at the barn working a young horse and Scott asked him when he was going to teach him how to braid. He told Scott to find some bailing twine and then proceeded to show him the process of braiding three strands. Scott was instantly hooked, and so began a lifelong love of braiding and creating. Education and preservation of Western Crafts has become a passion of his, and he loves teaching and seeing people reach their goals, while finding their own love of braiding.

Workshop Sponsors: Hermann Oak Leather Co. and Scott Gore Rawhide
