Workshop Description: This class will start with the bracelet. Fabrication techniques and challenges will be covered first, followed by how and when to create bezels, set stones, add borders, etc. Diane will demonstrate engraving, showing students how to design, layout, and/or transfer patterns. Diane will demonstrate unique engraving techniques, including patterns that mimic set stones, beveling scrolls, creating sculptural flowers, etc. The buckle segment will cover similar topics but specialize in belt buckles. Time will be set aside for questions and answers, specific demo requests, and for students to try some of the engraving techniques and tools.
Materials to bring: Paper and notebook. Projects in the works or concept only.
Workshop Instructor: Diane Scalese has been hand engraving for over 30 years. Beginning with silver engraving on the bits and spurs that she and her husband Bob built, Diane also began building and engraving saddle silver, belt buckles, and jewelry. In time, she started engraving firearms, knives, and watches. Diane is a Master Engraver in the Firearms Engravers Guild of America, a Colt Master Engraver with the Colt Collectors Association, and a 2018 inductee in the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, Texas.
