Workshop Description: Part history lesson, part leather carving workshop, this workshop examines the style, technique and influence of one of the greats of the craft. F.O. Baird is certainly one of the undisputed masters. His style has probably had more influence on floral carving evolution than any other master. His books and patterns command premium prices even to this day, and are eagerly sought after by professional craftsmen. Join Jim Linnell as he explores that style and the techniques of carving under the influence of F.O. Baird.
Materials to bring: Stamping surface, stylus, swivel knife, strop, mallet, spray bottle or sponge & water dish, and medium to small floral stamping tools, including bevelers, pear shaders, veiners, cams, seeder, mules foot, larger crowner, and background texture of choice.
Workshop Instructor: Born and raised on a ranch in eastern Montana, Jim Linnell has had leather working in his blood ever since his first visit to the Miles City Saddlery. Now, after spending the last 50+ years working with leather, those sounds and smells are still a part of his life. Through the business he started in retirement, www.elktracksstudio.com, Jim instructed over 10,000 students during the pandemic. Whether in a large group or private classes, Jim is always ready to share his passion and knowledge of leather working. He is the 2002 recipient of the Al Stohlman Award for Achievement in Leathercraft.
Workshop Sponsors: Hermann Oak Leather Co.
