Broderick Vaughan
Prescott Resort – Chino Room
Wednesday 02/21 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
All skill levels welcome!
Workshop Description: Knowing what sections of an alligator hide are useful for specific projects can be a bit of a mystery, but Broderick is well-versed in knowing where to cut and why. He will have whole crusts for students to work with, from which they will cut their 1-piece belt strips. That’s right! No hobbling together of pieces…just one, long, amazing piece of alligator that tells a story. These belts will be lined with cowhide, and finished in class (sewn, edge finished, hardware and all). Best of all, this workshop is on Tuesday, so you can wear it the whole week at the show!
Materials to bring:
Notebook, pencil/pen and questions. Cameras and video are welcome. You will need a cutting mat, knife, scissors, mallet, pounding board, etc. Don’t forget your maker’s mark if you have one.
Workshop Instructor: Broderick Vaughan owns Vaughan Gators in Tallahassee, Florida. What started as a new hobby for an avid lifetime hunter turned into a full-time job as a nuisance alligator trapper for the Florida Wildlife Commission. After a decline in the international alligator hide market in 2016, Broderick began tanning all of his own hides at Sebring Custom Tanning. The unique experience of being a part of the entire production process, from capturing the live alligator to making the finished goods, is what led him to develop a passion for leatherwork.
Workshop Sponsors: The Fiebing Company, Leather Machine Co., LLC, and Renia USA
