Workshop Description: In this workshop, participants will create a leather card holder, while exploring a range of essential leatherworking techniques. The project focuses on a two-step dyeing process designed to achieve a subtly-aged effect. First, a traditional alcohol-based dye is applied to establish the base tone. This is followed by a water-based aniline dye, adding depth and variation to the final color. Students will also practice traditional saddle stitching using pricking irons. Both single and double pricking techniques will be covered, allowing participants to learn the fundamentals of saddle stitching through several hands-on exercises. Finally, edge finishing will be an important part of the process. Participants will work with edge paint as well as explore a more traditional approach through sanding and burnishing, allowing them to compare both methods and understand their applications. This workshop is designed to provide a solid foundation in practical techniques, while completing a functional leather piece.
