Workshop Description: Take your tooling to the next level with even more depth and definition in your lines and shading. This comprehensive course will explore the impact leather weight and quality has on your carving, various approaches to effective casing, the importance of maintaining sharp tools, as well as a close look at the tools and techniques in your current and future arsenal. Be ready to practice concepts learned in class after short demonstrations.
Materials to bring: Maul, carving tools (including, but not limited to: bevelers, shaders, thumbprints, lifters, bargrounders, geometrics), swivel knife, strop, weight, tooling stone, and dividers.
Workshop Instructor: Sarah Garvey is a full-time leather artist specializing in intricately tooled purses and accessories. A single mom of two, she has been designing and creating under her brand, Western Skies Handmade, since 2008. With a background as a classically trained musician, Sarah’s distinct style elevates traditional craft with a fresh blend of classical and modern designs.
