Workshop Description: This will be a leather carving workshop. The project will be the carving of the folio cover with one of Bobby’s floral designs. The focus of the instruction will be on the carving, with emphasis on the swivel knife techniques, the carving sequence, and proper tool selection and use. Additional topics will include leather selection, preparation for carving, maintaining proper moisture and preparation for finishing. The student will also receive cutting patterns for the folio interior and general assembly instructions for the completion of the project at home.

Materials to bring: SHARP swivel knife, stamping tools, stamping stone, note taking materials and camera. A recommended tool list will be forwarded to students who sign up for workshop. NOTE: An acrylic cutting guide set will be available for sale in class. The set will include the cover & lining, side pocket w/business card pocket, notebook slot panel and pen loop.

Workshop Instructor: Born and raised in Arizona, Bobby was greatly influenced by the cowboy lifestyle. He began tooling leather at the age of twelve and has developed a unique style in the western floral tradition. His work has won numerous awards at gear shows and exhibitions and sells throughout the U.S. and Europe. Bobby instructs both locally and abroad. In 2015 he was presented with the Al Stohlman Award for Achievement in Leathercraft. He authored Creating Western Floral Designs, a highly acclaimed instruction on western floral tooling patterns which is distributed in over 40 countries and he sells a variety of innovative products which are designed to enhance leatherworking for novices and professionals alike.
