Workshop Description: Students in this workshop will make a braided rawhide hatband from start to finish. Class will begin with a PowerPoint demonstration on the step-by-step process for making rawhide and transforming it into braided, functional art. Then, we go hands-on, with students learning how to temper dry rawhide, cut and bevel string, and braiding their very own rawhide hatband. All tools and materials provided.
Materials to bring: Please bring note taking materials and enthusiasm to learn. All tools and materials are provided.
Workshop Instructor: Scott’s braiding career began at age six. One day, his dad was at the barn working a young horse and Scott asked him when he was going to teach him how to braid. He told Scott to find some bailing twine and then proceeded to show him the process of braiding three strands. Scott was instantly hooked, and so began a lifelong love of braiding and creating. Education and preservation of Western Crafts has become a passion of his, and he loves teaching and seeing people reach their goals, while finding their own love of braiding.
