All skill levels welcome!
Workshop Description: Students will learn techniques for figure and floral carving while creating a stunning picture of a sandhill crane. Whether you’re a beginner wanting to learn figure carving or a veteran leatherworker wanting to hone your skills, this workshop is for you. (Recommended as a follow-up course: Coloring the Sandhill Crane)
Materials to bring: Students should bring a tooling stone, swivel knife, modeling spoon, medium to small floral carving tools (camouflage, pear shaders, bevelers, veiners, seeders, mulesfoot, shell tools, backgrounder), figure bevelers, a pebble background tool, your favorite texture matte type background as well, mallet or maul, spray bottle, and strop.
Workshop Instructor: Erik began leatherworking in 2014 as a hobby, quickly developing a deep passion for the craft. What started as a personal passion grew into a desire to share my knowledge with others. Today, he teaches hands-on classes through McNeese State University. These classes are focused on traditional techniques and practical skills. He enjoys helping students of all skill levels discover the joy of working with leather and seeing them leave with the knowledge, pride, and satisfaction of something they made themselves.
Workshop Sponsors: Hermann Oak Leather Co.
