Workshop Description: Of the many 3D leather projects that Jim Linnell has done over his 50 plus years of working with leather, none have prompted as many requests for a workshop as the Bison Skull. The first time Jim created this piece, it was the centerpiece of a piece of commissioned art that sold for $4,250. When people look at your finished piece, they will not believe it is made from one piece of leather. It is an amazing piece of leather sculpture that is sure to bring comment and conversation every time you show it. Note that the workshop begins on Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm and goes until 5 pm, and continues the next day (Thursday) from 9 am – 5 pm.

Materials to bring: Stamping surface, mallet, swivel knife, spray bottle or sponge & water dish, stylus, modelling spoon, ball end modelling tool, scalpel, medium to small bevelers, smaller smooth pear shader, small can of rubber cement,

Workshop Instructor: Born and raised on a ranch in eastern Montana, Jim Linnell has had leather working in his blood ever since his first visit to the Miles City Saddlery. Now, after spending the last 50+ years working with leather, those sounds and smells are still a part of his life. Through the business he started in retirement, www.elktracksstudio.com, Jim instructed over 10,000 students during the pandemic. Whether in a large group or private classes, Jim is always ready to share his passion and knowledge of leather working. He is the 2002 recipient of the Al Stohlman Award for Achievement in Leathercraft.

Workshop Sponsors: Hermann Oak Leather Co.
