Product Description

Come join Ed on Wednesday and Thursday for his unique leather carving/tooling and dyeing “Nature Flow” workshop. Ed will be sharing his knowledge and tips on how YOU can produce this beautiful work of art that can be used on albums, journal covers, or simply framed to be admired as wall art. Are you up to the challenge? Are you looking to take your tooling to the next level? Ed will present a deceptively complex design that is quite challenging but very achievable. It has several – MANY – areas requiring special attention to make all the layers, depth and definition stand out. All leather, supplies and dyes provided. There is a lot packed into this workshop, so be prepared to bring your A-Game! Should you need more time, Ed is willing to stay on to make sure you finish your project. Be aware that class may go past 5 pm if needed.

Materials to bring: Stamping stone, maul/mallet, strop, swivel knife, stylus, assorted smooth pear shaders, thumbprints, and bevelers, favorite background tool (no bargrounders!), smooth matting tool, hand style petal lifters, brushes (1/4” flat or Filbert and medium pointed), and most importantly, a Fun-and-Ready-to-Learn Attitude!

Ed ”BearMan” LaBarre’s first connection with leather was in 1967 at age 13, in the leathercraft shop at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. He later worked at McLelland’s Saddle Shop in Florida and learned from Bob Dellis, who encouraged Ed to make tools. His son, Beary, now runs BearMauls. Check out his website:
