Workshop Description: This is an upper-level workshop not intended for beginners. Participant will learn how to weave and design a standard pattern (half diamonds/center and weaves) on a 25- or 21-strand roper cinch/girth (up to 32″/81 cm).
You will be able to choose the colors for your cinch from available colors (please contact Aurelie prior the workshop to select your colors). You will learn how to estimate the length of mohair needed for a woven roper mohair cinch in regards to the finished length and/or the number of strands.
All supplies (mohair and hardware) and tools (frame, scissors, needle, spacers etc…) are provided by EQUIMOHAIR and participants will leave with their own cinch. Upon completion of this workshop, the student will be “autonomous” on the building of a woven cinch and will be able to make mohair tack for their own need or for business. Mohair is hypoallergenic, comfortable, and breathable for the horse. It is really strong and easy to care of. This workshop is provided in English and/or French.

Materials to bring: Pencil, notepad, camera, and a floor cushion (some prefer to work sitting on a chair, others on the floor).

Workshop Instructor: Aurelie Avesque-Jouan has been a western saddle maker since 2010. She was taught by Dale Moore in Belgrade, Montana (USA) to build saddles with respect to the horse’s comfort. She has been making cinches as well since then, with the same goal in mind: efficiency of the tools and respect for the horse. Since 2016, she has offered (through EQUIMOHAIR, based in France) mohair cords and yarns and hardware and tools for cinch and tack makers in order to help develop the mohair tack market in Europe. Aurelie speaks French and English.
