Workshop Description: Many leather carvers are not aware of what all they could do with a modeling spoon. In this workshop, Jim will answer those questions. Students will create and amazing, inverted carving of a wolf with some attitude, and they will do it with only a swivel knife and a modelling spoon. You will be amazed at the depth, color, and three dimensionality that you will be able to achieve from a piece of leather with just a modeling spoon.

This is a workshop that will teach you skills that will help you in all your leather carving. Your floral carving, figure carving, and embossing will all benefit from what you learn in these four hours.

Materials to bring: In addition to the various types of modeling tools in your collection, plan to bring your swivel knife, stylus, stamping surface, mallet, and basic stamping tools.

Workshop Instructor: Born and raised on a ranch in eastern Montana, Jim Linnell has had leather working in his blood ever since his first visit to the Miles City Saddlery. Now, after spending the last 50+ years working with leather, those sounds and smells are still a part of his life. Through the business he started in retirement, www.elktracksstudio.com, Jim instructed over 10,000 students during the pandemic. Whether in a large group or private classes, Jim is always ready to share his passion and knowledge of leather working. He is the 2002 recipient of the Al Stohlman Award for Achievement in Leathercraft.
