Wednesday-Thursday, 2/27-2/28, 8:00am – 5:00pm Jerome Room, Prescott Resort

Intermediate

During Bob’s 56 years as a saddle maker, he has made saddle bags of all sizes and shapes. In this 2-day workshop the student will build and take home a ladies purse in the design of a single saddle bag, complete with a shoulder carrying strap. Bob will explain the proper choice of leather, design and construction methods. Patterns will be furnished along with a flower carving pattern. Day 1 will primarily be carving, and day 2 will be construction. Basket, block or border stamping will also be an option. Students will lay out a pattern on hide, cut it out, stamp and assemble the project. Learn to make an accordion gusset, get additional practice cutting, edging, burnishing, general construction techniques and finishing. Materials donated by Hermann Oak Leather Co., Renia USA and the Fiebing Company.

Materials to Bring: Notepad, pencil, camera, swivel knife, strop, mallet, stamping tools, stamping surface, round knife or favorite cutting knife, wood or poly cutting surface, heavy scissors, #2 and #3 edgers, edge rubbing supplies, and a broad-faced hammer. Bob will supply tools for those who don’t have all the listed tools. If flying to the trade show, contact Bob at 970-878-5382 to arrange for tools.
