Workshop Description: Have you ever noticed the hair on a bison? Look closely and you will see that the length varies from satiny and short to wild and shaggy, going every which direction. This workshop is designed to explain the differences in the construction of the hair, in every length. Learn also how to create depth in the hair, to make the fluffy parts stand out without changing the depth of the leather itself. A clear finish will be applied at the end so that you can go home with a completed 5” x 7” (12.7cm x 17.75cm) picture, ready to frame. This workshop will be taught in English.

Materials to bring: Stamping stone, mallet, stylus, modeling spoon, swivel knife, a weight to hold down the leather while you work, and bevelers and pear shaders in various sizes (smooth and checkered).

Workshop Instructor: When she was very young, Kathy started her leathercraft career as a 4-H project, not knowing what it would lead to many years later. She has become the recipient of prestigious awards, such as the coveted Al Stohlman Award and Master Leather Artisan of the Year from the Academy of Western Artists. Figure carving has become her primary focus, and she is determined to share everything she has learned.

Workshop Sponsors: Hermann Oak Leather Co., Renia GmbH, and The Fiebing Co.
