Laughing Kookaburra

Kathy Flanagan

Friday, 19. October, 2018 - ROZET, Kortestraat 16, Arnhem

09.00 - 17.00, (9 am - 5 pm)

Skill Level: All skill levels welcome!

Course Description: Have you ever done any plug embossing? This technique is a great way to make your carvings pop...literally. The Kookaburra, a king fisher of Australia, is best done with a plug made with two layers. This provides the carving with enough depth to give it an excellent 3-dimensional appearance. The bird also provides different kinds of feathers to sharpen your feathering skills. On top of all that, learn to paint with a dry brushing method that makes your Kookaburra come alive! Supplies donated by Hermann Oak Leather Company and Renia GmbH.

Student Should Bring: Styluses (normal and smooth point), modeling spoon, swivel knife and strop, bevelers and matting tools (smooth and checkered, various sizes), pear shaders (smooth, various sizes), E375, F895, F902, paint brushes (small round), mallet, stamping stone, sharp scissors/knife, skiving knife and a weight to hold down the leather (like a shot bag).

Kathy Flanagan

When she was very young, Kathy started her leathercraft career as a 4-H project, not knowing what it would lead to many years later. She has become the recipient of prestigious awards, such as the coveted Al Stohlman Award and Master Leather Artisan of the Year from the Academy of Western Artists. Figure carving has become her primary focus, and she is determined to share everything she has learned.
