Gerda’s full name is Gerda van der Stroom-de Jong. She began to work with leather in 1982,  with her main interest being to make useful and functional leather art. She does a lot of custom work such as designing wall decorations, saddlebags, saddles, cases, belts, jewelry and more. She enjoys incorporating the individualism and uniqueness of the person who commissions the item. To promote the art of leather working in the Netherlands, she teaches workshops in her leather shop and in schools. She organized “Leather 2000”, a large leather show with workshops in Europe, with artists from all over the world.
