Skill Level: All Skill Levels Welcome!

Course Description: Whimsical animals have been the subject matter of art for hundreds of years. In this workshop, Natalie will teach students how to create life-like details on Detective Bun Sherbun by Carol Philips.

On Friday morning, Natalie will demonstrate how to create detailed fur textures, clothing folds, beveling and matting, and how to properly prepare the subject for painting.

The rest of the workshop will be focused on painting with acrylics. Natalie will show students how to use acrylic paint to give an already life-like carving some breathtaking color. The techniques will include: perfect blending, shading, adding highlights and “shine” to your project. Natalie will also teach students how to paint fur in a manner that adds depth and dimension to Detective Bun.

In addition to the above techniques, Natalie will discuss proper paint selection, which brushes to use and how to find the perfect hue for each section of the painted piece. Some materials donated by Hermann Oak Leather Company.

Student Should Bring: Paint brushes (medium and fine plus some extra fine for details), paint tray, modeling spoon, swivel knife, strop, figure bevelers, matters, backgrounding tools of your choice, steep bevelers, a hair blade, mallet or maul, stamping stone, tracing stylus,  a spray bottle for casing the leather with water.
