In this workshop, students will learn how to create a beautiful, applique braid using the single strand braid technique. This technique is fun and easy to learn. Once learned, this versatile braided technique can be applied to different projects as a unique embellishment. The students will also learn how to properly cut, skive, and bevel the lace for braiding. Materials supplied by Y-Knot Lace and Fiebing’s.

Materials to Bring: Large edge beveler or small French edger, ruler, #10 overstitich wheel, sewing awl, lacing fid, 2 lacing needles, white saddle soap or braiding soap.

Sheryl was first introduced to leathercraft while a Girl Scout and later began braiding leather, learning from masters of the craft in both kangaroo and rawhide, and becoming skilled in round braiding, inlay/overlay braids and fine edge braiding. Her work has won many blue ribbons and she enjoys making custom dog leads. She is the leader of a 4-H leathercraft club, is on the Oregon State 4-H Expressive Arts Advisory Committee and owns Katzke’s Custom Leather in Redmond, Oregon, with her husband, Tom.
