Realistic Leaves Oak Tree with Appliqué Butterfly

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

In this 2 day workshop you will emboss the trunk of the tree to give it a more realistic appearance, and tool and sculpt everything using Ed’s “Realistic Leaves” process. On day 2 you will use Ed’s “Nature Colors” coloring process to color everything and position the appliqué butterfly. Materials donated by Hermann Oak Leather Co. and Renia USA.

Materials to Bring: Maul/mallet, an assortment of bevelers, pear shaders and thumbprints, P206, P208, P367 (or similar), 2 styluses (for drawing veins), petal lifters, background tools, swivel knife, strop, a stamping surface, brushes and a palette.

Ed ”BearMan” LaBarre’s first connection with leather was in 1967 at age 13, in the leathercraft shop at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. He later worked at McLelland’s Saddle Shop in Florida and learned from Bob Dellis, who encouraged Ed to make tools. His son, Beary, now runs BearMauls.
