Leather Flowers & Vases

Joe Boyles

Saturday, May 19, 9 am - 4 pm

W203B, Sheridan Community College

Skill Level: All Skill Levels Welcome!

In this workshop we will make roses and calla lilies as well as a leather vase. The roses will be dyed and the calla lilies will be painted. We will start with the vase as it takes much longer to dry. We will discuss using these flowers for things such as boutonnieres and corsages. We will also talk about Joe’s success and failures with making flowers and vases to give you insight into this project. This is NOT a coloring workshop. Supplies donated by Hermann Oak Leather Co., Fiebing’s and Rugged Cross Saddlery.

Materials to Bring: A pair of leather shears/heavy duty scissors, size 1 or 2 leather punch, poundo board, mallet, pencil, an old hair dryer (if you have one), 2 small paint brushes and acrylic paints (if you want to have your own colors).

Joe Boyles

Joe began braiding while in Australia in 1988 after getting his first Ron Edwards book. Back home, he was taught rawhide by Mary Fields, who is in the Bruce Grant books, and also attended Dale Moore’s saddle building school. Kangaroo and rawhide are his preferred materials to braid with. He started braiding Australian stock whips a few years ago and is now starting on bullwhips. Joe enjoys teaching and will keep you entertained while you learn.
