Skill Level: All skill levels welcome!

King of the Jungle is a great class if you’re looking to improve your hairing techniques. An African lion has numerous hair lengths. To create the most realistic hair, the “one hair at a time” technique is the most valuable. You will also learn how to get the depth, which is so important in realistic carvings. Painting is included in this class. Learn about the importance of shadowing and contrast to make your lion come alive. Come join me for a day and a half of the most fun type of learning available. Supplies donated by Hermann Oak Leather Co. and Renia USA.

Materials to Bring: Styluses (regular and tiny point), modeling spoon, swivel knife and strop, bevelers and matting tools (smooth and checkered, various sizes), pear shaders (smooth and flat, various sizes), undercut beveler, F895, F902 or F902-2, paint brushes (round with firm tip, sizes 2, 3, & 4), mallet and a stamping surface.

Kathy Flanagan

When she was very young, Kathy started her leathercraft career as a 4-H project, not knowing what it would lead to many years later. She has become the recipient of prestigious awards, such as the coveted Al Stohlman Award and Master Leather Artisan of the Year from the Academy of Western Artists. Figure carving has become her primary focus, and she is determined to share everything she has learned.
